DUBAI LABOUR LAW
The expatriate labour force is one of the main driving forces behind the success and development of the UAE. With the Emirates 95% reliant on expatriate labour it is crucial to be up to date on all legal requirements as an employer.
Although the Emirates has been occassionally criticised for its ancient labour laws the UAE Government has taken many steps to revise labour policies. Fines and restrictions have been placed on employers in order to protect the interests of workers and ensure compliance with UAE guidelines and employment contracts.
With a major overhaul of the current labour policies in the pipeline, the UAE will become inline with UN regulations and International humanitarian requirements. Organisations need to be confident that their policies are compliant in the face of development. The UAE government has even ruled in jail terms for extreme breach cases.
Although Union representation is not yet permissible within the UAE there are many channels available for employees to proceed with complaints and resolve employment disputes.
